Medical Offices
Karen Jacobson Architects specializes in the design of medical offices. Some
are for large practices with a variety of specialties, and many are for plastic
surgeons and ear nose and throat specialists. Medical offices, especially those
with operating suites, have evolved in the last decade because of the need for
more back office space, the development of new technologies and communication
systems, and more stringent code regulations. Because of new hospital policies,
doctors are choosing to do procedures, once done only in hospitals, in their
own offices.
One design challenge is to maintain high technical standards in what are often
the first floors of residential buildings in NYC. There is always a puzzle of
how to deal with Landmark regulations and the coop policies when commercial type
air conditioning, filtration and gas systems are to be utilized. The sterile
atmosphere of the operating rooms is the opposite of the warm and comfortable
style desired in the reception area. Doctors, who perform surgery in their offices,
want to present an image of competent but also caring professionalism. |
