Berkshires

This is a house for a bachelor in the Massachusetts’ Berkshires. It was designed to be a simple barn-like structure. The house was clad in two materials, shingles at the upper story and clapboard on the lower to suggest that the structure may have changed over time. The view is to the south, so most of the glass and the porches face that direction. The house is a compact 2000 square feet with four bedrooms and a large double height living room. Every square foot of space was utilized.

In keeping with the simple barn style, rough timbers were used for the open ceiling of the living room; and all the rooms had white woodwork. Because of the whitewashing of many of the room, the detailing in the cabinets and trim used shadow to give texture to the rooms. This house was featured and decorated by Home Magazine.
