Eastside Apartment

Two apartments were combined to form an 1800 square foot, three bedroom, three bathroom family apartment. The combined spaces resulted in a long narrow configuration with existing pipes and structure blocking the connection. The 1940’s coop building had a hybrid construction and no building personnel familiar with the location of structure and building systems. This resulted in a challenge solved by finding old drawings and cutting holes in occupied apartments in order to find a way to logically connect the two spaces. The result is an arrangement of spaces without compromise that allowed open living spaces at the street and bedroom spaces at the rear of the apartment. The style of the apartment gained warmth from lighting and cabinetwork that enhanced the owners’ modern aesthetic and furniture.
